Although at ATEMPO we believe that a diamond is chosen not only for its technical specifications, but also for what it conveys, before embarking on your diamond search, we want you to know the criteria that experts use to value a diamond: cut, carat, color and clarity. These criteria are known as the 4 Cs.
COURT
Of the four characteristics, cut is the one that most influences a diamond's brilliance: it determines how light enters, reflects, and exits the stone. A well-executed cut can make a diamond of lower color or clarity quality look spectacular, while a poor cut can dull even the purest stone.
The cut should not be confused with the shape. Among the most recognized shapes are the round brilliant (the most popular for its exceptional brilliance), oval, marquise, pear, heart, emerald, cushion, princess, and radiant.

Cut quality is usually graded on a scale ranging from "Excellent" to "Poor," evaluating proportions, symmetry, and polish.
CARAT
A carat is the unit that measures the weight of a diamond, not its visual size. Its name comes from the carob seed, which was formerly used as a weight reference due to its remarkable uniformity.
A diamond with a higher carat is not necessarily better. Two stones of the same weight can look and be worth very differently depending on their cut, color, and clarity. At ATEMPO, we always prioritize the balance between these factors and the final beauty of the stone.
COLOR
The color scale evaluates the absence of hue in a white diamond, ranging from D (completely colorless) to Z (with a perceptible yellow or brown tint). The closer to D, the rarer and more valued the diamond, as it allows for better light transmission.
It is important to note that color perception also depends on the metal in which the stone is set. A piece in yellow gold can conceal warm tones, while a piece in white gold or platinum highlights the purity of the color. CLARITY
Clarity measures the presence of inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external) in a diamond. These are natural characteristics that form during its creation process underground. The scale ranges from FL (Flawless, no inclusions visible even under magnification) to I3 (inclusions visible to the naked eye).
Truly flawless diamonds are extremely rare. Most stones used in jewelry are "eye-clean," meaning their inclusions are invisible to the naked eye, even if they exist under magnification, and offer an excellent balance between beauty and value.
